Jul 16, 2011 - So I passed my first year

First of all yes I am happy that I passed my first year. But that is not what this post is about or maybe its a little bit about it.

<!--more-->This post is about those who think getting the propaedeutics is a big thing. In case the translation to English in the Netherlands, propedeuse is a propaedeutic diploma issued after the first year of studies, often referred to as "P" by students. I want to point out that its nothing more then passing the FIRST year of your study. Its for most students nothing more then going to college and paying attention. But apparently some think its something hard and something of a bonus thing to do. It is not. It's something you should get in your first year and thats it. Why do people take 2 or 3 years to get the P instead of getting it over with?

In my case it wasn't a hard thing to get, since I had some exemptions I was able to get it in 3 quarters instead of 4. What I would like to know is why someone would take so long to get the P or even finish the study I don't think it's the difficulty of the study if you need more then the given number of years.

May 30, 2011 - Interesting thoughts

So this post has been waiting on me to write it since the 30th of may... I have been thinking of making this post about a lot of things but instead I will make a few more posts about those subjects. In this post I want to talk about how the processes laid upon developers kill their passion and their creativity.<!--more-->

After reading this:

http://radar.oreilly.com/2011/05/process-kills-developer-passion.html.

I started thinking about what was said in that article and how that applies to me. During my study so far we have been taught a lot about the processes involving software development but is software development really such a straightforward well defined business or is there more to it?

I think there is more to software development then just following rules. How can new software be made without thinking outside the box, outside those rules given by all those processes.

May 11, 2011 - Hanze mail in mail client

So in this blog it's about getting Hanze mail into a mail client. So basically if you are no student or teacher at Hanze Hogeschool this post is not for you :). For those who are still reading, you might have noticed that there is no standard way to get mail into a mail client. This post will show you how to get the mail into a mail client. To bad you can't send mail from it that still has to be done via webmail.

I'm not going to describe all the different clients here since I only use Thunderbird and Empathy. The settings for the mail client are:

Servertype: Imap Servername: webmail.hanze.nl Port: 993 (default for IMAP) username: nawnumber@hanze.nl security: SSL/TLS ( if you can choose one pick SSL) authentication: normal password E-mail adress: your email adres (name@st.hanze.nl for students) Outgoing server: use one of another mailing account.

This will also work on mobile phones.

If anyone has things to add or is confused please reply
